Five Star Comfort At Mandarin Orchard Singapore

Singapore’s Mandarin Orchard Hotel is a haven for shoppers, foodies, and businesspeople. Previously named Meritus Mandarin Singapore, the hotel has been providing five-star comfort and top-notch service since the early 1970’s. Impeccably located on Singapore’s famed Orchard Road, Mandarin Orchard Hotel is within walking distance of MRT, bus station, and unlimited shopping and dining options.

Location, Location, Location

It’s easy to reach any tourist destination in Singapore from Mandarin Orchard. Of course, the hotel’s location on Orchard Road makes it a prime choice for visitors looking for ease of access to shopping and entertainment. For far flung destinations like Universal Studios, the hotel offers a free shuttle service. Mandarin Orchard Hotel is a just a 5 minute walk from Somerset MRT Station, and Orchard Road is littered with bus stops, and available taxis.

Endless Shopping

Mandarin Orchard Singapore is connected to Mandarin Gallery, a 4-story shopping mall with upscale international brands, and some rare shopping finds. The hotel is a short walk to The Paragon, a high-end shopping mall with many excellent dining options. Orchard Road’s largest shipping mall, Ngee Ann City, is also a short walk from the hotel. The Japanese department store, Takashimaya is a notable shopping attraction at Ngee Ann City.

Dine In Or Out?

The hotel offers several restaurants, including Chatterbox, Mandarin Court Chinese Restaurant,  Triple Three, Coffee & Crust. Bar on 5 is the hotel’s lone bar and cocktail lounge. Chatterbox serves up Hainanese Chicken Rice, an award-winning dish, along with satay, chicken wings, and many other traditional dishes. For hotel guests, the room service fee is a nominal SGD 3, and is highly recommended for those craving Chatterbox’s excellent local cuisine.

Of course, there are a myriad of dining options within any of the surrounding shopping malls. Outside of an obligatory trip to Chatterbox, we would suggest venturing out onto Orchard Road for better food deals.

4 Reasons You Should NOT Stay at Mandarin Orchard Hotel

1) The pool leaves much to be desire: It’s small in size, and much of the pool is in the shade.

2) No open spaces: This is an urban hotel, not an airy, resort-like hotel. The lobby has no lounge area, sofas, or chairs.

3) Businessmen be warned, the hotel does not offer free Wi-fi. Wi-fi access costs SGD 32.10 for 24 hours of use, and service can be spotty.

4) Check-In and Check-Out lines are long. Ok, now we’re just splitting hairs…

The Mandarin Orchard Singapore is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a centrally located five-star hotel with access to shopping, restaurants, and public transit. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, flying solo or traveling with family in tow, Mandarin Orchard Hotel is a highly recommended hotel choice.
