The Caravelle Hotel in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City exudes an air of historical significance, modern luxury, in an extravagant five-star package. Opened in 1959 in the city formerly known as Saigon, The Caravelle Hotel was a home base for foreign war correspondents in the 1960’s, housing NBC, ABC, and CBS stations, as well as the Australian and New Zealand Embassies. The French colonial Caravelle Hotel of the 1960’s is no more, as renovation in 1998 ushered the Caravelle Hotel into the 21st century in modern five-star fashion.

Despite 21st century upgrades, the hotel remains a historical staple of District 1’s bustling tourist center. The Caravelle Hotel is a popular hotel choice for tour groups, businesspeople, and tourists looking for a centrally located five-star hotel within walking distance of many of Ho Chi Minh City‘s top attractions. Located next door to the Opera House, and within walking distance of the Notre Dame Cathedral, President House, War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, and Ben Thanh Markets, today’s Caravelle Hotel is an ideal hub for travelers of all types.

The hotel’s 335 suites offer panoramic views of the city. North-facing rooms have the best views of Ho Chi Minh City,  and the Saigon River. Many visitors find that the “Signature” floors provide a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Sam Lon Square. Five popular restaurants and bars are located within the hotel, with the rooftop Saigon Saigon Bar being the most popular and famous of the bunch. Saigon Saigon features an open-air layout, and panoramic views of Ho Chi Minh City. Foreign war correspondents used the bar as an area of recreation and relaxation throughout the 1960’s. On any given night you can find businesspeople, tourists, and locals imbibing at Saigon Saigon.

Spacious suites, five-star service, and endless amenities await visitors at the Caravelle Hotel. Though the Caravelle Hotel cannot compete with the modern stylings of the Hotel Nikko, and doesn’t have the same colonial flair as the Park Hyatt, it’s ideal location in Lon Sam Square, and its special place in history make it a shining attraction in the Pearl of The Orient.
